Selfish elites. Or elitist. Or want to think of themselves as elite. Lacking in altruism. Yup, that sums up Apple amazingly well.
The iPad is one of the more controversial mainstream technology products in recent memory. Some love it, others think it’s pointless. Naturally, the debaters believe that their opinions are about the product. I actually think it’s more about them and their personal differences. Recent MyType survey data backs me up, indicating that behind the controversy is a personality clash between selfish elites and independent geeks.
Finally, Jobs’ schoolyard blame-shifting is exposed for what it is, right alongside his latest flawed product.
Consumer Reports has confirmed what we already knew about iPhone 4 — touching its external antenna produces noticeable reception problems — but with that finding offered a damning conclusion: This phone is not recommended.
Ouch!
There are some major flaws in this thing, but it’s a brilliant example of Apple’s marketing strategy. Release a deeply flawed product, then rake in the $$ while the sheeple babble excitedly about which missing feature they’ll be able to pay for when they buy the NEXT GENERATION! I guess I can’t really blame Apple for fleecing the sheeple who cry out so insistently for it.
A lot of people at Gizmodo are psyched about the iPad. Not me! My god, am I underwhelmed by it. It has some absolutely backbreaking failures that will make buying one the last thing I would want to do.
I find this sadly typical of Apple’s “use, abuse, and discard” ethics. The question here isn’t one of whether he owns stock or not, it’s one of intellectual property, selfish greed, and an appalling lack of simple human gratitude.
If Ron Wayne, now 76, weren’t one of the most luckless men in the history of Silicon Valley, it wouldn’t have turned out like this.
He was present at the birth of cool on April Fool’s Day, 1976: Co-founder — along with Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak — of the Apple Computer Inc., Wayne designed the company’s original logo, wrote the manual for the Apple I computer, and drafted the fledgling company’s partnership agreement.
That agreement gave him a 10 percent ownership stake in Apple, a position that would be worth about $22 billion today if Wayne had held onto it.
But he didn’t.
Some vulgar language, but an amusing portrayal of the mentality typical of a hardcore Apple Cultist.
Has anyone noticed the pattern that nothing is ever Apple’s fault? It’s the algorithm, it’s AT&T, it’s the user….. Interesting that this so-called “faulty algorithm” only shows up when the antenna is obstructed.
Apple has issued an official statement about the iPhone 4 antenna issue, attributing the problem to a mistake in the formula that calculates the number of bars to display. Apple says that a software update will be available “within a few weeks” that will correct the issue, not only for the iPhone 4, but also the 3GS and 3G.
“To start with, gripping almost any mobile phone in certain ways will reduce its reception by 1 or more bars. This is true of iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, as well as many Droid, Nokia and RIM phones. But some users have reported that iPhone 4 can drop 4 or 5 bars when tightly held in a way which covers the black strip in the lower left corner of the metal band,” wrote Apple. “This is a far bigger drop than normal, and as a result some have accused the iPhone 4 of having a faulty antenna design.”
According to Apple’s theory that bigger is necessarily better:
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry over this one.
An iPad e-mail leak has revealed every single one of more than 114,000 early-adopter iPad e-mail addresses. These e-mail addresses were required for 3G iPad owners to activate their devices. This iPad e-mail leak has compromised not only the e-mail addresses of people like your tech-savvy neighbor down the street but White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. This information leak not only exposes hundreds of thousands of AT&T customers to security concerns, it raises questions about the exclusive contract between Apple and AT&T.
I’m speechless….
